TRURO – The Moncton Wildcats built a 3-1 first-period lead and edged the Halifax Mooseheads 4-3 on Friday in a Quebec Major Junior Hockey League exhibition game in Truro.
Kyle Tibbo, a 2012 draft-pick of the Truro junior A Bearcats, led Moncton with two goals in front of a crowd of about 2,500 at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre.
Christopher Caissy, the Maritime junior A league playoff MVP with the Summerside Western Capitals last season, added a goal and an assist for the Wildcats, while Ryan Penny, on a power play, fired the other Moncton marker.
Andrew Shewfelt, Danny Monynihan, on a power play, and Jesse Lussier replied for the Mooseheads.
Wildcats goaltender Alex Dubeau made 29 saves, while the Mooseheads split duties between Zachary Fucale and Kevin Darveau. Fucale, a second-round draft pick of the Montreal Canadiens this year, made 10 saves on 14 shots, while Darveau stopped all 11 shots he faced.
Moncton went 1-for-3 on the power play, while Halifax went 1-for-4 with the man-power advantage.
The pre-season tilt was a fundraiser for the Truro and Area Minor Hockey Association.
