TRURO – Colchester County’s skateboard and BMX riders were on fire Sunday in a competition hosted by HAF Skate and Tattoo at the Truro Skate Park.
Colchester competitors made the podium in each of the event’s four divisions. The one-day event attracted 35 entries from across the province with 25 skaters and 15 BMX riders doing battle for cash and prizes.
“We’re really happy with it,” said organizer Mitch Cooke. “It was the first time in a long time there were more skaters than BMX riders so that’s a good sign for skating.”

Riders were sent out in groups to collect points by doing tricks with the top earners moving on to semifinal and final rounds.
Brookfield’s Daniel Patton won the skateboard side of the event while Kyle Henderson, also of Brookfield, was second and Truro’s Bruce Treby was third. All three are HAF shop riders.
In the under-12 skateboard division, Truro’s Tristan Pratt won while Cameron Dillman nabbed the runner-up position.
In the Over-18 Division of the BMX competition, Truro’s Nick Russell finished in the runner-up spot to Moncton’s Ryan Gagnon. Truro’s Matt Hill rounded out the podium.
BMX’s under-18 division was claimed by Onslow Mountain’s Nathan Blois while Truro residents Brett Atkinson and Sam Hiltz were second and third respectively.
