TRURO – The Truro Bearcats dropped two of their three weekend meetings with the Sydney Sooners in the Nova Scotia Senior baseball League.
The Bearcats fell 7-1 to Sydney in the second game of a Saturday doubleheader after winning the opener 7-5. The Bearcats also fell 13-5 a night earlier to start the series.
The results leave the Bearcats (7-19) in the basement of the five-team league, 5.5 games behind the Kentville Wildcats for the final playoff spot. Sydney (15-14) sits third.
In Game 2 on Saturday, Sydney grabbed a 4-1 lead in the third inning and never looked back. Josh Fushtey suffered the loss, allowing 15 hits. Guy Pellerine belted a pair of singled while Adam Lombard doubled and Tony Stewart singled.
Paul Doucette allowed just four hits for the win in a complete game. Jordon Shepherd led the offence with three singles.
In Game 1, Sydney led 5-3 in the eights before Truro mounted a comeback. Pellerine went the distance for the victory. Lombard singled three times and Joe MacPherson added a pair of hits.
Justin Brewer was tagged with the loss and Duncan MacDougall doubled twice for Sydney.
On Friday, Sydney scored three times in the first to take control. Lombard ripped a pair of singles.
Anthony Ianetti was the winning pitcher with five strikeouts and got help from Sherpherd with a pair of doubles and a single.
The Bearcats are back in action Wednesday when they travel to Kentville for a 7:30 p.m. start.
