TRURO – The Truro MU Rhino Renovations Bearcats opened their run for an Atlantic minor midget hockey title Thursday with a loss.
The Bearcats dropped a 3-1 decision to the Nova Scotia champion Bedford Blues in the final game of the day at Colchester Legion Stadium. Truro takes on the P.E.I. champion Pownal Red Devils today at 1 p.m.
Logan MacDonald scored the lone Truro tally Thursday while Matt MacCallum made 18 saves.
Sam Robertson, Ryan Pachal and Wesley Fox each scored for Bedford and Jonathan Hall made 23 stops.
In other opening-day action the Blues blanked the Northern Huskies from Newfoundland 4-0, while the Red Devils posted a 5-0 win over the Moncton Hawks.
Bedford got a pair of goals from Pachel in its opening game, while Sam Robertson and Jake Whebby added single markers. Ryan Hustis earned the shutout.
Pownal was led by Harrison Hayden's two goals in its triumph over Moncton. John MacKenzie, Curtis Martell and Luke Diveneletto chipped in other goals and Matt Derry was the winning goaltender.
