SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. – Colleen Pinkney secured herself a place in the playoffs Thursday afternoon at the Canadian senior women’s curling championship in Summerside, P.E.I.
Pinkney bumped her record to 9-0 at the event with an 11-8 triumph over P.E.I.’s Nola Murphy in the afternoon draw. Pinkney is back in action tonight against Ann McKellar-Gillis (3-6) of the Northwest Territories.
The Truro Curling Club squad also consists of Wendy Currie, Shelley MacNutt and Susan Creelman.
With Murphy leading 4-2 after the third end, Pinkney tied it in the fourth. Murphy took a 5-4 lead in the fifth before Pinkney scored deuces in the sixth and seventh to build an 8-5 cushion.
However, Murphy charges back with a single in the eighth and two more in the ninth to knot the score before Pinkney picked up three in the 10th to ice it.
Quebec’s Catherine Derick, Debbie Santos of Alberta and Manitoba’s Lois Fowler are tied for second in the table at 6-3.
