TRURO – Colleen Pinkney holds a share of top spot on the leaderboard as the Truro skip heads into play on Day 3 Monday at the Canadian Senior Women’s Curling Championship in Summerside.
Pinkney moved to 3-0 Sunday with a 6-4 victory over Quebec’s Catherine Derick. Alberta’s Debbie Santos is also unbeaten thus far.
The Truro Curling Club rink, which also includes mate Wendy Currie, second Shelley MacNutt and lead Susan Creelman, takes on New Brunswick’s Heidi Hanlon at 10 a.m. before a showdown with Santos at 7 p.m.
Pinkney, the Nova Scotia champion, opened a 3-1 lead after scoring a pair of points in the third end of Sunday’s game. After a pair of scoreless ends, Derick notched singles in the sixth, seventh and eighth to take a 4-3 lead.
But Pinkney countered with a pair in the ninth to go up 5-4 and added another in the 10th to seal the win.
MacNutt, competing at her first senior women’s national, curled at 76 per cent in Sunday’’s game.
The foursome won the 2009 provincial and Canadian titles with Karen Hennigar as second, before taking the 2010 world title in Chelyabinsk, Russia.
