TRURO – Kyle Morrison won’t know until Saturday morning whether or not he will be crowned the Maritime Junior Hockey League’s scoring champion.

Morrison had two goals and one assist on Friday to lead his Truro Bearcats to a 7-2 win over the Woodstock Slammers at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre.

The Mississauga, Ont., native finished the regular season with 35 goals and 53 assists for 88 points in 50 games, tied with Summerside Western Capitals forward Danny Chiasson (34G, 54A, 88P, 48GP).

Chiasson scored one goal and had three assists Friday as Summerside downed the Campbellton Tigers 7-2.

And while it’s assumed the first tiebreaker is most goals, Bearcats head coach Shawn Evans said Friday night it wasn’t official and the league would inform him on tiebreaker rules Saturday morning.

Travis Fernley, Dylan McGuigan and Daniel Perigo each had a goal and an assist for the Bearcats last night, while Alex Hazelhurst and Zach Evans-Renaud added other markers in front of 1,411 fans. Ryan Purvis and Steve Gillard replied for the Slammers.

Bearcats goalie Jacob Fancy made 24 saves, while his teammates fired 27 shots at Slammers netminder Sam Renaud.

The Bearcats (38-9-0-5) finished first in the Eastlink Division and will play a first-round playoff series against the winner of the Pictou County-Bridgewater best-of-three elimination series.
