EDMONTON – Truro’s Kayla Gallaher is a national champion.
Gallagher, 18, captured gold in the women’s weight throw on Thursday at the Canadian Interuniversity Sport track and field championship at the University of Alberta.
Gallagher’s toss of 18.24 metres was the furthest throw by a female freshman in CIS history.
Gallagher, a member of the Lethbridge Pronghorns, entered the event ranked fifth. The former member of the Truro Lions track and field team will compete in shot-put on Friday.
Truro’s Peter Millman, who also attends the University of Lethbridge, will compete in weight throw Friday and shot-put on Saturday.
