TRURO - The Truro Bearcats stayed on top of the EastLink Division in the Maritime Junior Hockey League after a 3-1 victory over the Halifax Shipbuilders on Tuesday.

The Bearcats (37-9-0-5) sit two points ahead of the Yarmouth Mariners (36-10-2-3) in the battle for top spot in the division. Yarmouth downed Bridgewater 7-3 last night. Both teams have one game remaining in the regular season.

The victory at the Dartmouth Sportsplex in front of a small crowd of 177 wrapped up an impressive stretch of games for the Bearcats, who won four times in five nights.

Tyler Morrison, Daniel Perigo and Travis Moore, into an empty net, scored for the Bearcats, while Mitchell Jones had the lone goal for the Shipbuilders.

Shayne Campbell made 19 saves for the win, while his teammates peppered Shipbuilders netminder Jeff Arkin with 43 shots.

Truro's Kyle Morrison had an assist in the game and leads Summerside's Danny Chiasson by one point for the lead in league scoring.

The Bearcats finish their regular season on Friday when they host the Woodstock Slammers for a makeup game at 7 p.m. at the RECC.
