TRURO – A late-game collapse left the Cobequid Cougars winless at the NSSAF Division 1 girls basketball championship Saturday at CEC Gymnasium.
The Cougars, ranked No. 4, dropped a 58-56 decision to the No. 6 Riverview Royals to finish eighth out of eight at the tournament with an 0-3 record.
Holding a three-point lead with 15.8 seconds remaining, Becky Hanna drained a three-point shot to tie the game and Allison Keough made a pair of free throws with 2.7 seconds left to put the Royals in front.
Brooke Densmore led the Cougars with 18 points while Brittany MacKay collected 12. Madison Munro put up eight points.
The Citadel Phoenix won the title with a 74-62 victory over the Lockview Dragons in the final. Memorial high took home bronze.
