ST. MARGARETS BAY – The Brookfield Elks are a win away from advancing to the second round of the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League playoffs.
The Elks nipped the Bay Ducks 4-3 in overtime Saturday to take a 3-1 lead in their best-of-seven division semifinal. Game 5 is Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Don Henderson Memorial Sportsplex.
Nick Carroll was the hero for the Elks, scoring mid-way through the five-minute sudden death. Geoff Burke, Liam Carr and Devon Muir also scored for Brookfield, which finished the regular season second in the Fred Fox Division at 19-12-1-2.
The Ducks (_19-13-2-0) finished third.
Chris Riguse scored twice for the Ducks, one with seven seconds remaining to send the game to overtime, with the other tally coming from Alex Farquhar.
Spencer Scott made 37 saves for the win while Bradon Boucher stopped 38.
