Cougars eliminated from high school hockey playdowns

TRURO - The Cobequid Cougars have been eliminated from provincial high school hockey contention.

The Cougars lost 4-2 to the North Nova Gryphons and 5-4 in overtime to Dr. J.H. Gillis Royals in their Northumberland region playoff series. The losses marked the end of the road for the Cougars, who needed a regulation win over the Royals to advance to the second round of regional playdowns.

Brady Davis and Matt Laing scored for CEC in the loss to North Nova, while assists went to Bradley Gallant, Richard MacNevin and Evan Taylor. Blake Meech played nets.

Austin Wheeler, Bryan Grue, Tom Little and Tom Faulkner scored for the Cougars against the Royals, while assists went to MacNevin, with two, Grue, Kylar Frank and Laing. Sebastien Gibson played nets.
