Elks aim to shoot down Ducks in division semifinal

KENTVILLE - The Brookfield Elks open their Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League playoffs on Tuesday at the Don Henderson Memorial Sportsplex.

The Elks host the Bay Ducks for Game 1 in the best-of-seven Fred Fox Division semifinal series, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Game 2 is Saturday at the St. Margaret's Centre in Upper Tantallon.

The Elks (19-12-0-1) wrapped up the regular season on Saturday with an 8-3 loss to the Valley Maple Leafs to finish just one point behind the Sackville Blazers (20-12-0-2) for top spot in the Fred Fox Division. The Ducks (19-13-02-2) finished one back of the Elks,

The Blazers meet the Maple Leafs in the other division semifinal series.

Saturday, Jory Uhlman led the Maple Leafs with a hat trick, while Andrew Squires fired a pair of goals and Brandon Parker, Colin Gillis and Craig Anderson added singles.

Nick Carroll had a goal and an assist for the Elks, while Drew McNutt and James Shapleigh had other markers.

Elks goaltender Spencer Scott made 36 saves before being replaced by Dennis Nolan late in the second period. The Elks fired 25 shots at Olafr Schmidt.
