TRURO - Kyle Morrison continued his red-hot play and the Truro Bearcats cruised to a pair of lopsided victories during the weekend in the Maritime Junior Hockey League.

Morrison scored two goals and assisted on another as the Bearcats dumped the Miramichi Timberwolves 7-2 Sunday, a day after the six-foot, 190-pound forward recorded three assists in a 7-0 pasting of the Metro Shipbuilders.

Morrison leads the league in scoring with 79 points (31 goals, 48 assists) - six ahead of Summerside's Danny Chiasson.

The wins also pull the Bearcats to within two points of the EastLink Division-leading Yarmouth Mariners entering the final two weeks of the regular season.

Sunday, the Bearcats led 2-1 after the first period and 4-1 after 40 minutes. They blew the game open with two goals in just over a minute to start the third.

Tyler Morrison, Alex Hazelhurst, Philip Fife, Grant West and Dylan McGuigan had other goals for the Bearcats, while Billy Gaston and Tyler Brown replied for the Timberwolves.

Truro goalie Jacob Fancy made 17 saves, while the Bearcats fired 28 shots at Julien Daigle.

Attendance was 365.

Sunday, Jordan Coccimiglio, McGuigan, Travis Fernley, Patrick Downe, Hazelhurst, Robillard and Zach Evans-Renaud did the scoring for the Bearcats.

Shayne Campbell stopped all 22 shots he faced to record his second shutout of the season. Truro had 46 shots.

Attendance was 483.
