TRURO – The Cobequid Cougars are still in search of their first Northumberland region high school boys hockey playoff victory.
The Cougars were drubbed 7-0 by the North Nova Gryphons on Saturday in Game 2 of a three-team double round-robin tournament.
The loss came after a 4-4 tie with the Dr. J.H. Gillis Royals in CEC’s first game on Thursday in Antigonish.
Cobequid meets North Nova on Friday in New Glasgow, and hosts Dr. J.H. Gillis next Sunday at 7 p.m. The top two teams following the round robin will meet in a best-of-three final. The winner will advance to the provincial championship, while the loser will play a provincial qualifying game against a team from the Western region.
On Saturday, the Cougars allowed two power-play goals and gave up two shorthanded markers in the lopsided loss. North Nova led 1-0 after one period and 4-0 after 40 minutes.
On Thursday, Bryan Grue, Pat McNutt, Michael Kennedy and Matt Laing scored for the Cougars.
