TRURO -The Cobequid Educational Centre Cougars captured the Northumberland Region high school girls basketball championship on Friday night with an 82-37 romp over the Dr. J. H. Gillis Royals of Antigonish.
Grade 11 guard Brooke Densmore paced the Cougars with a 28-point performance. Brittany MacKay added 17 and Kim Roode also reached double figures with 10.
CEC led 40-19 at halftime.
The Cougars are hosting the eight-team provincial championship on Feb. 28-March 2.
Other teams that have qualified at press time are Citadel, Lockview, Halifax Grammar and Riverview.
