FORT MCMURRAY – Team Nova Scotia didn’t come home empty handed from the Canadian Junior Curling Championships in Fort McMurray, Alta.

Sarah Sears, who plays lead for Truro’s Mary Myketyn-Driscoll rink, laid claim to the mixed doubles title Sunday at the event.

The mixed doubles competition was open to all players not competing in the playoff rounds.

Sears, along with Mitch Young of the Yukon, defeated New Brunswick’s Rene Comeau and Northern Ontario’s Megan Westlund 5-2 in the final.

On Friday, the Nova Scotia champions, who also consist of third Taylor Clarke, second Mackenzie Proctor, were eliminated from the event in a 10-6 loss to New Brunswick.
