Spinney wins opening draw at Canada Games qualifier

YARMOUTH - Truro's Drew Spinney is off to a good start at the Nova Scotia Canada Games boys curling qualifier.

Spinney defeated Lakeshore's Shane Langille 8-6 on Friday in Draw 1 at Yarmouth Curling Club.

The Spinney foursome, which includes mate Seamus Rose, second Evan McDonah and lead Alex McDonah, delivered the big blow in Friday's game by stealing four in the fourth end to open a 6-2 lead.

Spinney meets Chester's Ben Baker Saturday at 9 a.m.

On the girls side, Truro's Katie Hennigar plays her first game Saturday at 9 a.m. against Yarmouth's Alex LeBlanc. Hennigar skips a team, which consists of third Lindsey Burgess, second Lane Yuill and lead Maddison Murray.
