TRURO – The Truro Bearcats pumped in four goals in the second period to cruise to a 7-2 victory over the Metro Shipbuilders Tuesday in Maritime Junior Hockey League action in Dartmouth.

The win lifts the Bearcats (27-7-0-4) to within a point of the Yarmouth Mariners (29-8-1-0) for top spot in the EastLink Division. The Shipbuilders (4-37-0-1) are in last place.

Truro has a chance to take the division lead tonight when they travel to Amherst to take on the third-place Ramblers (24-9-3-2) at 7 p.m. in a make-up contest. The game was originally scheduled for Dec. 19.

Jordan Coccimiglio, who just returned to the Bearcats’ lineup on the weekend after missing nearly three months to injuries and family matters, scored just 32 seconds into the second period to give the Bearcats a 3-1 lead. The tally sparked an offensive outburst which also saw Kyle Morrison, with his second of the game, Grant West and Philip Fife all hit the net by 10:10 for a commanding 6-1 cushion.

Alex Hazelhurst rounded out the Truro scoring at 8:20 of the third after Damon MacEachern pulled one back for Metro at 2:01.

Brandon Pye spotted the Bearcats a 1-0 lead just 1:22 into the game before Mitchell Jones knotted it on the powerplay five minutes later.

Morrison notched his first of the evening at 11:50 to make it 2-1 Truro.

Jacob Fancy recorded his sixth win of the season with 13 saves while Jeff Arkin saw 36 Truro shots come his way.
