BIBLE HILL – It was a tough day on the court Sunday for the Dalhousie Rams basketball squads.

The men were defeated 90-39 by the St. Thomas Tommies while the women’s side was shellacked 120-16 in the same matchup at Langille Athletic Centre.

The results leave the men winless through 14 games this season and in last place in the eight-team conference. The women (1-13) are also at the bottom of the standings.

Tyler MacDonald paced the Rams with 15 points while Ian Kamp collected 12.

Nathan Mazurkiewicz netted a game-high 17 for the Tommies (10-4), who opened a 23-6 lead in the first quarter.

Hillary Hopper’s seven points topped the Rams scoring list while Brookfield’s Jessica Leck netted four. Olivia Dobbelsteyn scored 19 for St. Thomas (14-0), which held the Rams to just one point in the second quarter.

The Rams are in action Saturday when they travel to Mount Allison to take on the Mounties.

What is going on over there? It is time to take advantage of the Dalhousie connection and put at least a reasonably competitive basketball team(s) on the floor. If not it might be time to leave the league and invest the team budget in an intramural league. A missed opportunity that gets missed year after year.
