BROOKFIELD – The Brookfield Elks have completed their charge up the Fred Fox Division standings.

The Elks (16-9-1-2) took over the division’s top spot Tuesday with a 4-2 victory over the Bay Ducks (15-11-2-0) in Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League action at Don Henderson Memorial Sportsplex.

Brookfield sits one point clear of the Sackville Blazers (16-10-2-0) and both teams each have six games remaining in the regular season. The Ducks and Valley Maple Leafs (13-8-4-2) are just three pints back, knotted in third spot.

The Elks improved to 4-1 under new head coach Hughie Matheson, who took over from Kevin Harvey on Jan. 9.

James Shapleigh and Jordan Lauther scored in the third period to break a 2-2 draw. Nick Carroll and Ryan Crowe also scored for Brookfield and Spencer Scott made 33 saves for his 16th victory of the season. Carroll and Shapleigh also chipped in assists.

Connor Hirtle and Mitch Smith scored for the Ducks and Tommy Nicholson took the loss.
