TRURO - Former Truro Lion Robert Kennedy took first place in the 35-pound weight throw event at the recent Jump Start Moncton Open indoor track and field meet.
Kennedy's toss of 12.99 metres landed him the gold-medal spot. Kennedy, a member of the Dalhousie Tigers university team, was also second in the shot-put with his 12.91m throw.
Meanwhile, Truro Lion Nathan Burris was eighth in shot-put and fourth in weight throw, while Drew Erskine's 13.37m shot-put performance placed him first in youth boys, with clubmates Riley Jennings and Andrew Gibson taking second and third, respectively, all with personal best performances.
Erskine was first in the weight throw (15.98m) with Gibson and Jennings trading spots for second and third in that event.
Gregory McCarthy was first in the midget boys division (11.85m), with clubmate Sam Hames throwing 10.09m for second in his first competition. McCarthy's 14.11m throw was good for first in midget boys weight throw.
On the women's side, Sarah Colborne's 14.69m weight throw was the winner with Sarah Millman taking second.
Jessie Colborne was first in midget women's weight throw (10.09m) and Annie McCarthy was first in the bantam division (6.38m).
In shot-put Annie McCarthy was first in bantam (5.53m), Jessie Colborne fourth in midget (9.48m), Sarah Colborne first in youth (11.86m), with Millman in second (10.13m).
