TRURO – Chester's Chad Stevens thumped Truro's Peter Burgess 10-4 in seven ends on Friday afternoon at the provincial men’s curling qualifier at Amherst Curling Club.

Stevens broke open a close game by stealing three in the fourth end for a 7-3 lead. The teams exchanged singles in the fifth and six ends before Stevens counted a deuce in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

The Burgess foursome, which includes third Craig Burgess, second Jared Bent and lead Todd Burgess opened the 21-team event on Thursday with an 8-4 win over Mayflower’s Rob Harris.

The top five teams following this weekend’s qualifying tournament will advance to the provincial Tankard Feb. 5 to 10 in Truro.
