TRURO - The Truro Black Cats reeled in the gold medal in the midget division of the recent Phil Sears Memorial Friendship Hockey Tournament in Brookfield.
The Cats defeated the East Hants Gold Penguins 3-1 in the final after dropping a 4-3 decision to the Pens in their final round-robin tilt. The Cats also defeated the Sackville Blues 3-1, blanked the Brookfield Johnston's Elks 4-0 and opened with a 3-3 tie with the Brookfield Elks.
Chris Cameron, Trevor Fredeen and Stephen Mallov scored for Truro in the final, while Nathan Smith backstopped the Truro in the net.
Mallov netted a pair of goals in the loss to East Hants with Fredeen notching the other marker. Mallov also recorded an assist.
Against Sackville, Nick Singer led the Truro offence with a pair of goals with Collette rounding out the scoring. Smith manned the crease.
Smith also recorded the shutout against the Johnston's Elks while goals were provided by Brendan Collette, Hanbin Go, Rachel Curry and Fredeen.Collette also chipped in a helper.
Mallov accounted for all three Truro tallies in the opener and Smith was the winning goaltender.
