TRURO - The Cobequid Cougars opened the annual Snowball basketball tournament with a decisive victory over the Sydney Academy Wildcats on Friday afternoon.

Brooke Densmore poured in a game-high 23 points as the Cougars blasted the Wildcats 81-44 in the tournament's opening game at CEC gymnasium.

The Cougars meet the Riverview Royals today at CEC at 11 a.m.

Brittany MacKay added 14 points, including back-to-back three-pointers in the second half, for the Cougars, while Kim Roode had 12 points. Marissa Carter came off the bench and caught fire in the fourth quarter to finish with eight points.

Densmore was CEC player of the game, while Tashi LaRose, who scored a team-high 13 points, was player of the game for the Wildcats.

In other games yesterday, Riverview defeated Dr. J.H. Gillis 74-43 and Horton edged Fredericton 61-58. The only othe rgame Friday featured Rivervew (N.S.) against Halifax West (result not available at press time).

Today's final is scheduled for 5 p.m. today.
