TRURO - The Truro Pye Chev-Olds Bearcats edged the Antigonish Bulldogs 2-1 in overtime to win the peewee AAA division at the 33rd annual KFC Christmas minor hockey tournament.
Player of the game Jared McIsaac scored both Truro goals in the final, while Gavin Hart and Carson Lanceleve had assists. Alec MacDonald played a strong game in nets.
The Bearcats finished first in round-robin play after posting a pair of wins and tie.
In a 2-2 draw with the Sackville Flyers, Brody Schmitt and Connor Miller netted goals and Hunter Martin and Marc Aucoin added assists.
The Bearcats then posted a 5-0 victory over the Pictou County Crushers on the strength of shutout goaltending by Seth Slater. Aucoin fired two goals, while singles were added by Hart, Miller and Lanceleve. Cody MacDonald and Schmitt each had a pair of assists with singles going to Rowan Sears, Luke Smith, McIsaac, Martin, Patton and Hart.
The Bearcats finished the preliminary round with a 5-3 win over the Bulldogs. Cam Patton led the way with two goals and two assists, while Cody MacDonald added two snipes and McIsaac had a goal and a helper. Aucoin had three assists with singles going to Connor Grant, Lanceleve, Martin and Weston Porter.
Player of the game for the round-robin games were picked up by Schmitt, Kyle Stuart and Patton.
