Bearcats earn shutout victory at major bantam tournament

HALIFAX - Jack Lynds stopped all shots directed his way to earn the shutout and game MVP honours as the Truro Bearcats blanked Acadian Peninsula from New Brunswick 5-0 Friday morning at the ESSO major bantam hockey tournament.

Taylor Smith, Doug Barton, Brandon MacDonald, Jevan McNutt and Jared Weatherbee scored for the Bearcats, while Noah Archibald was the playmaker with four assists.

Later on Friday, the Bearcats battled to a 4-4 tie with Bedford to run their record to 1-0-2 (W-L-T).

Truro tied the Western Hurricanes 2-2 on Wednesday in the Bearcats' tournament opener.

Weatherbee and Smith scored in that contest and Brody MacPhee and Barton had assists. Goaltender Brandon Archibald earned the win and was game MVP.
