TRURO – One of the finest athletes to come out of Colchester County has been named the honourary chair of the Fred Page Cup.
Lyle Carter, a 68-year-old Brookfield resident, was named Wednesday to the position for the event, which comes to the Rath Eastlink Community Centre (RECC) May 1 to 5.
Carter has a long list of achievements in both hockey and softball.
Carter, a goaltender, played professional hockey for eight seasons, including a 15-game stint with the NHL’s California Golden Seals in 1971-72.
Carter was also a standout third baseman with the Brookfield Elks senior men’s softball team, claiming four all-Canadian honours and winning the Mainland fastball League’s batting title 10 times.
Since retiring from playing, Carter has become a businessman and a columnist for the Truro Daily News and a dedicated supporter of sports in Colchester County. He was inducted into the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame in 1984.
