TRURO - Despite a pair of weekend losses, the Truro Bearcats maintain the No. 3 spot in the Canadian Junior A Hockey League rankings.
The Bearcats (17-3-0-1) were also ranked third last week.
Truro defeated the Woodstock Slammers 4-3 last Friday, but suffered a 5-2 loss to the Yarmouth Mariners Saturday and 3-1 defeat at the hands of the Miramichi Timberwolves Sunday.
The Bearcats are the top team in the Maritime Junior Hockey League, one point ahead of the Summerside Western Capitals (16-3-2-0), who are ranked 13th in the country.
Truro leads the MHL in goals for (94) and goals against (45).
The Brooks Bandits (21-1-0-0) from Alberta are the No. 1-ranked team in Canada, followed by Saskatchewan's Flin Flon Bombers (18-5-0-0).
The only other Maritime league team ranked in the top 20 is the Yarmouth Mariners (16-5-1-0), who check in at No. 17.
The weekly rankings are based on a number of factors, including the league in which the teams play, winning percentage, win-loss record, total points accumulated and goals-for vs. goals-against ratio.
The Bearcats return to action Thursday when they travel to New Glasgow to play the Pictou County Weeks Crushers. Saturday, Truro hosts the Bridgewater Lumberjacks (Colchester Legion Stadium, 7:30 p.m.)
