Boys volleyball Cougars settle for silver at Sackville tournament

TRURO - The Cobequid Cougars brought home the silver medal from the recent Sackville Kingfisher high school boys volleyball tournament.

The Cougars were defeated 2-0 (25-22, 25-23) in the final by the Horton Griffins, giving Horton a 5-2 edge over Cobequid in head-to-head matchups this season.

Cobequid defeated the Citadel Phoenix 2-0 (25-13, 25-16) in the semifinal after downing the J.L. Ilsley Judges 2-0 (25-6, 25-15) in their quarterfinal matchup. Cobequid cruised through the tournament with 2-0 sweeps of the C.P. Allen Cheetahs (25-12, 28-26) and Horton #2 (25-10, 25-10).

Harrison Callaghan was a points machine carrying a 100 serving percentage, while adding 95 assists. Adam Sandeson made nine perfect passes and Riley Tanner made nine stuff blocks.

The Cougars host the Dr. John Hugh Gillis Royals Thursday at 3:30 p.m. in the second leg of the Northumberland Region final.
