BROOKFIELD - The Brookfield Elks suffered a 3-2 shootout loss to the Sackville Blazers Monday in the Nova Scotia Junior Hockey League.
The setback drops the Elks (5-5-1-0) into the basement of the six-team Fred Fox Division, while Sackville (10-4-1-0) builds a three-point lead at the top of the division over the Valley Maple Leafs.
It also kept Sackville perfect in all three meetings with the Elks this season.
Brookfield is back inaction tonight as they host the eastern Shore Mariners (7-4-0-0) at 7:30 p.m. at Don Henderson Memorial Sportsplex.
The contest was a rough one with three fights breaking out in the same stoppage mid-way through the second period. Brookfield defenceman Dan Bates was handed a pair of fighting majors in the stoppage, three game misconducts and a checking from behind penalty.
Shane Boudreau was the hero for the Blazers, who saw Shayne Oderkirk score both regulation tallies. Brennan Laite was the winning goaltender.
Jordan Wright and Connor Baker did the scoring for the Elks while Spencer Scott was tagged with the loss.
