Bearcats make quarter-finail of major bantam tournament

TRURO - The Truro Bearcats were knocked out in the quarter-final of the weekend's Maritime Challenge major bantam hockey tournament in Saint John, N.B.

The Bearcats were downed 3-1 by the Western Hurricanes after posting a 2-1 record in the round robin.

Ryan Bakker scored the lone goal in the quarter-final with Ben Higgins picking up the assist. Jack Lynds was named Game MVP.

The Bearcats defeated Fredericton 4-1 on goals from Bakker, Higgins Joel Sellers and Jevan McNutt. Doug Barton recorded a pair of assists. Brandon Archibald was the winning goaltender and Noah Archibald was named Game MVP.

Truro also nipped Moncton 3-2. Brendan Starratt, Archibald and Higgins, with the winner, did the Truro scoring.  Higgins was named Game MVP and Lynds picked up the win.

Truro opened the tournament with a 5-1 setback to Halifax. Brody MacPhee netted the lone Truro marker with Archibald picked up Game MVP honours.
