TRURO – A Truro native has been chosen for next year's National Amateur Golf Team.
Eric Banks is one of 11 athletes who was selected by Golf Canada to represent Team Canada as part of the 2013 National Amateur Golf Team.
The achievement is significant for Banks, who is at the University of Florida and is a member of the NSCC Division 1 golf team there, particularly since he underwent open-heart surgery during the summer and hasn't played all year.
The overall team is compromised of six men and five women.
The men's team features Banks, who is a former Nova Scotia men's amateur and junior boys champion; Garrett Rank of Elmira, Ont.; Corey Conners of Listowel, Ont.; Justin Shin of Pitt Meadows, B.C.; Chris Hemmerich of Kitchener, Ont.; and Taylor Pendrith of Richmond Hill, Ont.
On the women's side, participates are Christine Wong of Richmond, B.C.; Augusta James of Bath, Ont.; Brittany Marchand of Orangeville, Ont.; Jisoo Keel of Coquitlam, B.C. and Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls, Ont.
