TRURO - The Truro Bearcats are looking to fill a roster spot with the loss of forward Jordan Cox.
Cox, a 20-year-old Cole Harbour native, informed coach Shawn Evans he is leaving the Bearcats for the Eastern Shore Mariners of the Nova Scotia junior B ranks.
"It's disappointing but it's a decision I understand," Evans said. "I support him either way."
Cox, who has five assists in 11 games this season, is making the move now because signing a junior B card before Nov. 1 leaves him eligible to play junior B next season as a 21-year-old. He will be eligible to rejoin the Bearcats once the Mariners' season is over.
Cox will be joining a Mariners squad with a coaching staff full of former Bearcats in head coach T.J. Smith and assistants Shane Nolan and Cory Chipman.
Evans will likely look for veteran talent to help bolster the Bearcats lineup for the Fred Page Cup in the spring. Teams can dress nine 20-year-old players in any given contest.
