Palardy selected by Bombers for special teams honour
TRURO – Justin Palardy is getting rewarded for an outstanding season.
The 24-year-old Murray Siding native has been named the Winnipeg Blue Bombers special teams player of the year as Canadian Football League teams submit their nominations for league awards Nov. 22 in Toronto.
Palardy is on pace to top the team’s singe season field goal percentage record of 86.7 per cent, which he set in 2010. He is currently working at 87.8 per cent, tied for second in the league with Hamilton’s Luca Congi, as the Blue Bombers host the Montreal Alouettes Saturday in their final regular season contest.
Palardy, a graduate of the Cobequid Cougars and Saint Mary’s Huskies programs, has made 36 of his 41 field goal attempts this season and has not missed since Sept. 9, a run of 13 in a row.
Palardy, who is also ranked fourth in the league with a 57.3-yard kickoff average, was named the league’s special teams player of the week in July after hitting all five of his attempts to collect 16 points in his team’s 25-22 loss to the Toronto Argonauts.

Royal LePage Bearcats top Bulldogs in midget A hockey
TRURO – The Truro Royal LePage Bearcats handed the Antigonish Bulldogs a 5-1 setback recently in midget A hockey.
Kevin MacDonald led the Bearcats with a pair of goals with other markers coming from Nick Gorman, Bryson Crowell, and Jonathon Murdock. Assists were handed out to Brandon Millar and MacDonald, each with a pair, while Gorman and Murdock added singles.
Chris Burgess was the winning goaltender.
