HL: Freightliners hitting stride late in Bantam campaign
TRURO - The Truro Freightliners cruised to a 19-6 victory, their third of the season, over the Western Valley Wings on the weekend in the Bantam Division of the Nova Scotia Minor Football League.
The win pushes the Freightliners, who have now taken three of the past four games, to the top of the Tier 2 standings with a 3-4 record. Truro has earned the right to host a first-round playoff contestNov. 10 at the TAAC Grounds.
The Freightliners recovered in the second half from a slow start and saw a pair of touchdowns come from Tyren Desmond and Shahnawaz Ahmed. Cole MacIsaac booted the extra point.
Brydon MacEachern collected four sacks.
The Freightliners look to pull to .500 as they take on the Dartmouth Destroyers.
HL: Blue Bombers clinch third in peewee football
TRURO - The Truro Blue Bombers dropped a 14-8 decision to the Timberlea Titans in their final regular season tilt in the Peewee Division of the Nova Scotia Minor Football League.
However, the result was still good enough to clinch third place for the Bombers.
The Bombers were put in a hole early and trailed 14-0 in the third quarter.
Ryan Power scored on a punt return and Riley Carmichael ran in the other Blue Bombers major.
Truro now has a bye week before taking on the Valley Bulldogs to open the postseason.
