TRURO - The Truro Bearcats continue to take care of business.
The Bearcats nipped the Amherst Ramblers 3-2 Sunday in front of 540 fans at Colchester Legion Stadium to remain undefeated in regulation this season. The victory improved their first-place record to 12-0-0-1 and completed a sweep of a pair of weekend home games after edging the Bridgewater Lumberjacks (4-13-0-0) 5-4 Saturday.
"It feels really good," said Bearcats forward Colby Lanceleve, who was named the game's first star with a goal and an assist. "Winning two straight at home is really good too."
Amherst, third in the EastLink Division, falls to 9-4-2-0.
The Bearcats, who came into the weekend ranked No. 2 in Canada, asserted themselves early and took a 1-0 lead with just 4:55 off the clock when Truro native Daniel Perigo took Lanceleve's pass from the corner and chipped it over Amherst goaltender Richard Tingley.
Amherst knotted the score midway through the second period on a powerplay goal from Jeff MacPherson, but Lanceleve's goal just eight seconds later put the Hubtowners ahead for good.
Truro's Mike Richard and Amherst's Brock Morrison scored third-period tallies.
Shayne Campbell made 16 saves for the win. Tingley stopped 26 shots in the Amherst crease.
"We just played a full 60 minutes," Lanceleve said. "Everyone was playing well and we all did what we had to do."
The Bearcats are back in action Tuesday when they travel to Dartmouth to take on the lowly Metro Shipbuilders (2-13-0-1) at 7 p.m.
