TRURO - Truro native Miranda McMillan has been named a CIS All-Canadian.

The 22-year-old Dalhousie University student was announced Friday as one of eight athletes from across the country to receive the award, which is presented to a male and female in each conference for maintaining an average of at least 80 per cent over the academic year while competing for one at least one of their university's varsity teams.

McMillan, a five-foot-seven defenceman, helped her Tigers to the AUS playoffs with 18 points - five goals, 13 assists - in 24 games in 2011-12.

She also maintained a perfect 4.30 grade point average on her way to graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. She has returned to the campus for a fifth year to complete her honours in statistics. A member of the Dean's List, she achieved A+ grades in all nine of her courses and has been an All-Canadian in all four of her years at Dalhousie.
