Bearcats Pye invited to Canada East selection camp

TRURO - Brandon Pye's hot start to the season has been noticed by Hockey Canada.

The 18-year-old Truro Bearcats forward was announced Tuesday as one of 60 players invited to the Canada East selection camp for the 2012 World Junior A Challenge Nov. 5 to 11 in Yarmouth.

Camp will be held Oct. 28 to 31 in Toronto. The players will be divided into three teams and put through daily practices and intrasquad games.

Pye, a Mount Pearl, NL., native, has been an offensive catalyst for the Bearcats (10-0-0-1), as the team is off to its best start in franchise history. The centre played last season with the St. John's Maple Leafs of the Newfoundland major midget circuit, leading the league with 61 points - 21 goals, 40 assists - in just 24 games.

Pye was the only Bearcat invited and is one of just three Maritime Junior Hockey League skaters attending the camp. Yarmouth forward Colin Campbell, Dieppe defenceman Justin McDonald and Metro goaltender Anderson Snair were also invited.
