Dalhousie woodsmen a cut above the rest
BIBLE HILL - The Dalhousie Woodsmen started their 2012-13 season where they left off in their championship campaign last year.
The Woodsmen men's A team recently won its division at the 47th Annual UNB Woodsmen Competition in Nackawic, N.B. The team won the pulp throw, log decking,
team swede saw, obstacle pole, single buck, axe throw and standing block chop events, while placing second in crosscut sawing, super-swede sawing and quarter split.
It was the third consecutive year the team has won the competition and runs its unbeaten steak to five events.
The women's A team finished in the runner-up spot, just 38 points behind Sir Sanford Flemming College.
The men's B team finished fourth and the women's B squad placed ninth.
The Woodsmen are back in action Nov. 3 in Lindsay, Ont.

Wolves suffer two losses in high school boys soccer
BROOKFIELD - The South Colchester Wolves dropped two of their three most recent high school boys soccer matches.
The Wolves fell 2-1 to the Northumberland Nighthawks after blanking the Springhill Eagles 5-0. The Wolves also dropped a 2-1 decision - their first of the season - to Hants North.
Ryan Duykers struck for the lone South Colchester against Northumberland.
Mitchell Johnson pumped in a hat trick against Springhill while Alberto Serracin and Dale Sheppard rounded out the scoring. Matt Joudrie and Sam Shackleton shared the goal keeping duties
Duykers also notched the lone Wolves tally against Hants North. The Wolves lost the match on a penalty kick with less than two minutes remaining in the match.

deVries snipes pair of goals to lead DQ Blizzards
TRURO - The Dairy Queen Blizzards froze Taylor Automotive 4-1 recently in their Colchester Women's Rec Hockey League tilt.
Rachel deVries led the charge with a pair of goals - both assisted by Erin Crowell - while Chelsea Colpitts and Sasha MacEachern also scored. Jaimie Saxton was the winning netminder.
Wanda Gallant responded with the lone Taylor Automotive marker with help from Amanda Dowe and Jane Ogilvie. Marcia Myers was in the net.
In other action, Stanfield's Factory Outlet nipped Wildflower Promotional Products 1-0.
Marissa Roode scored the only goal, while Cindy Crossman picked up the assist and Vanessa McKillop claimed the win.
Masstown Castle Building Centre cruised to a 5-1 victory over Stanfield's.
Stacey Webb scored three for the winners and added a pair of assists. Lorna McCallum and Krista deVries also scored and Christine White was the winning goaltender.
Heather Fraser netted the Stanfield's marker.

Robertson earns shutout as SCA blanks Ecole Acadienne
BROOKFIELD - The South Colchester Wolves blanked Ecole Acadienne de Truro 4-0 Thursday in their junior high girls soccer tri-county league quarterfinal.
The Wolves now prepare to take on the Central Colchester Bears in a semifinal match at 4 p.m. in Onslow.
Olivia Wolter-Cook led the Wolves attack with a pair of goals while Haley Duykers and Jessica Rankine added helpers. Erica Robertson recorded the shutout.
