TRURO - Truro horseman Danny Romo picked up a pair of wins recently in the final Atlantic Sires Stakes qualifier of the season ahead of this weekend's Atlantic Breeders Crown championships in Charlottetown.
Romo, a 59-year-old Shubenacadie resident, piloted Top Brand to victory in the first of two $10,000 A division races for two-year-old pacing fillies at Exhibition Park Raceway in Saint John, N.B. Later in the afternoon, Romo was at the controls as Carol Alice took the win in the other A Division heat.
Carol Alice, owned by Doug Rankin of Sydney, finished the season as the top qualifier for the Atlantic Breeders Crown with five wins and a second-place finish in six outings. Top Brand was second in the points with five wins and a third-place finish.
The top eight horses in each class - two and three year old pacing colts, fillies and trotters - qualify for the Atlantic Breeders Crown final, which is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
