TRURO - A flashy home opener helped the Truro Bearcats shoot up the national junior A hockey rankings this week.
The Bearcats were listed at No. 7 in the country Monday morning as the Canadian Junior Hockey League released its weekly list. The Hubtown club was No. 16 last week.
Truro, off to a perfect 5-0 start to the season, gave the Campbellton Tigers (0-5) an 8-0 thrashing Saturday in their first game at Colchester Legion Stadium. The Bearcats have outscored their opponents 25-5 so far this season.
The Yarmouth Mariners, ranked No. 3 last week, slipped to 18th spot. The Brooks Bandits of the Alberta junior circuit top the list.
The Bearcats have also traded forward Scott Pawson to the junior B Listowel Cyclones of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League for future considerations.
Pawson, a 19-year-old Corbell, Ont. native, was on the low end of ice time for the Bearcats, playing in just two games this season. He didn't record a point.
