TRURO - The Truro Bearcats scored a big win Friday with a 3-2 overtime victory over the Woodstock Slammers.
The win keeps the Bearcats (4-0-0-0) perfect so far this Maritime Junior Hockey League season, while the defending league champion and national silver-medallist Slammers (1-1-1-0) are third in the Meek Division.
Jordan Coccimigilio scored the winner 3:38 into the extra frame after Philip Fife sent it to overtime at 11:34 of the third period. Dylan McGuigan had the other Truro tally while Danny Harquail and Jake Wright scored for Woodstock, both in the second frame.
Truro's Shayne Campbell made 32 saves for the win while Simon-Pier Chamberland stopped 33.
"For the last few years, Woodstock has been the class of the league," Bearcats head coach Shawn Evans said. "This season we want to be mentioned in that class and in order to do that we have to win and beat the best. That's a huge confidence boost for our players."
The Bearcats host the Campbellton Tigers Saturday at 7 p.m. for their home opener at Colchester Legion Stadium.
