TRURO – Rain and flooding spoiled the Cobequid Cougars parade.
The Cougars high school football meeting with the Sir John A. Macdonald Flames was cancelled and the official opening ceremonies for James Macpherson Stadium were moved Sunday after heavy rains overnight caused flooding at the stadium, located behind Cobequid Educational Centre in Truro.
The ceremonies were still held, but moved to the Nova Scotia Community College cafeteria. About 50 people attended the event, including Macpherson's parents and several close friends.
Macpherson, a former standout for the Cougars who went on to star with the Saint Mary's Huskies, was killed in a plane crash in 2000. He was 27.
