Under-14 Riders claim provincial title

Truro-based team runs the table, defeats Halifax County on penalty kicks in final

TRURO - The CC Riders capped a brilliant season in fine style by winning the Nova Scotia under-14 Tier 2 A girls soccer championship.

The Riders edged Halifax County 2-1 on penalty kicks in the final to claim the provincial crown in Sydney.

The Truro-based team went undefeated (4-0) at the provincial tournament, posting other victories over Eastern Passage, Sackville and Glace Bay.

The Riders went undefeated in the Highland Soccer League with a 12-0-1 record. They scored 91 goals and allowed just seven against. They defeated the Antigonish Celtics in the league final to earn a berth at the provincial championship.

In tournament action this season, the Riders captured a bronze medal at the Halifax Dunbrack tournament, gold at the Gunn Balderson event in the Annapolis Valley and silver in Montague, P.E.I.
