TRURO - The Cobequid Cougars take serious momentum into their high school baseball home opener tonight against the Hants North Flames (Bible Hill Recreation Park, 6 p.m.).
Cobequid enters the game after opening the season with three wins in four games, including an 11-1 trouncing of the Pictou Academy Pitbulls on Monday.
Jared Adams led the CEC attack with two hits, while Kenny MacInnes, Jordan McCallum and Colton Beach each added singles in the five-inning mercy-rule beating. Nic Morrow was the winning pitcher.
The Cougars took two of three weekend games, as they enjoyed immediate success in their first high school baseball season.
The Cougars defeated Hants North 7-5 and hammered the Horton Griffins 11-0 in five innings. Their lone loss of the weekend was a 6-4 decision to the North Nova Gryphons.
Morrow led the Cougars over the Flames with three singles, while Lucas Naugle pitched six strong innings. CEC scored three runs in the sixth inning for the margin of victory.
In the romp over Horton, MacInnes, McCallum and Sam Byers each strokes two hits for CEC, while pitcher Beach allowed just one hit.
In the loss to North Nova, Keith Turner singled and doubled for the Cougars, while MacInnes swatted two singles. Byers was the losing pitcher. The Gryphons scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to snap a 4-4 tie.
