TRURO - The Truro Bearcats have made a significant addition to their lineup.
The Hubtown squad acquired forward Kyle Morrison from the Woodstock Slammers for a third-round pick in the 2013 draft over the weekend, which saw them get off to a 2-0 start to the Maritime Junior Hockey League season.
"He makes our team better, it's as simple as that," Bearcats general manager Shawn Evans said. "We're really excited to get him."
The 20-year-old native of Mississauga, Ont., collected 28 points (15G, 13A) in 35 games with the QMJHL's Gatineau Olympiques last season and put up 72 points (35G, 37A) for the Ontario junior league's St. Michael's Buzzers in 2010-11.
The six-foot, 191-pounder was scheduled to join the Bearcats, who recently acquired his 18-year-old brother Tyler, late Sunday. Truro travels to Dartmouth to take on the Metro Shipbuilders (0-1-0-1) Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
The Bearcats thumped the Miramichi Timberwolves 5-1 in Miramichi Saturday after opening the season with a 2-1 victory Friday over the Campbellton Tigers. Travis Fernley poured in a hat trick Saturday while Jeff Hanes and Dylan McGuigan also scored.
Against Campbellton, captain Travis Moore and Jordan Coccimigilio did the scoring. Shayne Campbell made 22 saves in both contests.
