TRURO - The Truro Bearcats have trimmed their training camp roster to 26 players.
The Hubtown's junior A hockey club recently saw defenceman Mark Wagner (Cape Breton West) and forward Nathan Jardine (Cole Harbour) return to their respective major midget clubs on their own accord while defenceman Kenny MacInnes also decided to return to the minor midget Bearcats.
Forward Connor Baker was sent back to the Brookfield Elks junior B squad while Andrew Dolan is headed back to play junior B in Saint John, N.B., where he skated last season.
Goaltender Jason Ellis, who manned the net for the Cole Harbour major midget club last season, is now at camp with the junior B East Hants Penguins.
Bearcats general manager Shawn Evans said his fine-tuning of the team will continue.
"There are still pieces we're looking at to improve the team," he said. "We're still doing a lot of looking around but we're not forgetting about what's right in front of us. I like the group we have and we're trying to improve on that."
The Bearcats host the Amherst Ramblers Sunday in a preseason contest at 7 p.m. at Colchester Legion Stadium before kicking off the regular season Sept. 14 in Campbellton.
