TRURO - Truro's first skate school was a success.

More than 20 kids aged five to 11 attended a morning session of the school put on Thursday by HAF Skate and Tattoo owner Mitch Cooke at the Truro skate park. An afternoon session for 12 and older kids attracted another several students.

"The kids seemed to have a good time and the parents seemed happy so I was really happy with it," Cooke, a Brookfield resident, said. "It was nice to see lots of kids out."

Cooke said thanks to the strong turnout, he plans to hold another school next summer.

Several of the store's competition team skaters attended the event to offer instruction to students ranging from the basics of skateboarding to advanced techniques, as well as park etiquette.

Admission was free and a lunch was provided.
