TRURO - The Truro Bearcats will not be competing in the Nova Scotia Senior Baseball League playoffs.
The Bearcats (6-21) had their postseason hopes dashed Saturday as they split a doubleheader with the Sydney Sooners (9-19) in Sydney. The hosts took Game 2 5-0 after the Bearcats staved off elimination with a 7-1 win in Game 1.
Truro dropped a 10-0 decision Friday to Sydney which left them one loss away from surrendering the fourth and final playoff spot.
Dan Bates suffered the loss in Game 2 while Jeff Chisholm, Josh Fushtey and Jason Blois came on in relief. Mike Tobin swatted a pair of singles while Troy Fisher added a hit.
Nate Brewer was the winner while Jeff MacKinnon and Cory Christie both doubled and singled for Sydney.
In Game 1, Fushtey went the distance for the win as Bates blasted an three-run home run and Scott Baillie singled twice.
Justin Brewer was tagged with the loss.
Sydney pounded out 15 hits in Friday's victory.
Truro wraps up its regular-season schedule with a visit to Halifax Aug. 29.
